I didn't really care for this year's superbowl, and I thought I'd put it to paper why.
1st. Indy's defense. As much a fan I am of Dungy and Marinelli as people (yes, I know neither are with Indy) I'm sick and tired of the soft Tampa 2. By the end of the game their line couldn't have pressured a Detroit offense and their soft prevent gave up 1st down after 1st down. I hate that... I'm not saying you have to have the #1 defense in the league, but for crying out loud, trying to pressure the QB with the same 4 lineman over and over and over to no avail, I just cannot stand it. 2nd. The on-side kick to start the 2nd half. Hated it. That's something you pull on a divisional rival in week 7, not something you pull in the Superbowl. Am I wrong for hating that play? Yes, I'm sure I am, but I want to see some dog gone football, not trickery, not there, not then. 3rd. Officiating. Was it terrible? No, not really. Was is consistent with the way calls were made in the regular season? No. A. That 2-point conversion should not have stood up BASED ON REGULAR SEASON plays. B. There were a couple missed PI calls. Maybe the Colts should learn how to be bigger whiners to draw flags. C. The personal fowl against the Colts linebacker in the 1st half was atrocious. He's stopping a runner lunging for the 1st down marker. 9 out of 10 times, the flag doesn't fly. Back to the 2-point play. I think, ultimately, that play should result in 2 points, I just don't believe the call was consistent with the way things were called this year. I'm all for an adjustment in determining possession, but do that in the off-season, not in the Superbowl. New Orleans had fewer mistakes and they pulled it off. That's how they beat a Vikings team that moved the ball at will. I just found the whole thing to be largely uninteresting. I'd rather see a game like that than one like where Seattle was totally ripped by officiating, but it still isn't the kind of game I enjoy. Pats-Giants... Now THAT was a game. Even last year's shoot-out and close-calls with the Steelers and Cards was pretty fun. This year was just kind of "blah". I'll find the roster-cuts today far more interesting than yesterday's game, I'm sure. This post has been edited by TimT: Feb 8 2010, 11:45 AM -------------------- The 2010 Detroit Lions. At least know the City of New Orleans can now recover from Hurricane Katrina, right??
I guess I'm wondering when the state of Michigan can recover from the worst economy in the nation? |
