I never really disliked this guy, he always had my respect as a person who knew what he wanted to do and wasn't afraid to do everything he could to make it happen -- I watched him operate back in the AFL, his successes were legend, regardless if it was in a game or in court against the NFL or one of the cities on which he turned his back!

One of his greatest coups involved our Lions -- he had drafted Fred Biletnikoff in the AFL draft, the Lions had drafted him in the NFL draft. This, of course, was before the merger, when the two leagues were highly competitive! Both drafts were held prior to the Gator Bowl (a lot of things have changed!) and Biletnikoff played in that game for Florida State. I, along with most other Lions fans, watched the game to see how "our new receiver" looked. We were all more than a little shocked to watch Biletnikoff ink a contract with Oakland ON THE FIELD, as the final gun went off! Fred Biletnikoff went on to play 15 years or so with the Raiders -- if you recognize that name, just think of the "Biletnikoff Award" given each year to the best receiver in the NFL!

R.I.P. Al Davis. I prefer to remember you as the insouciant winner of your early years than the caricature you became in your later life. Your contributions to the history of the NFL are truly legendary...........

:applause:
It took me a long time to get like this and I ain't changin' now!

R.I.P. Al ... a real NFL icon.

That said, are you making moves from beyond the grave? Where did this Carson Palmer trade come from?
