Allen Park -
The Lions Fanatics Insider Justin VanFulpen had a chance to sit down, and talk
with Detroit Lions second year running back Luke Staley, who missed all of last
year with a knee injury.
Justin VanFulpen: Last year was somewhat of a disappointment; things didn't go
your way. What did you take from that?
Luke Staley: I think in all it was learning experience. I was able to come in,
I got my feet wet a little bit, and learned how pro offenses are run, and what
the coach expects. I think it was a good learning experience for me last year.
VanFulpen: As far as your knee goes, would you say you are 100% now?
Staley: Yeah I do. I'm ready to go. I have been out there practicing, the knee
feels good, and I have no problems with it.
VanFulpen: Will you have to wear any type of brace this coming training camp,
and this season?
Staley: No. After the surgery, the knee is actually stronger then it was before
I even hurt the knee.
VanFulpen: Have you lost any of your speed or cutting ability?
Staley: Nope! I'm still able to go out their and run as fast as I could before,
cut, and make people miss just like I was able to do when I was at BYU in my
junior season before I came out for the NFL draft.
VanFulpen: As far as the new coaching staff coming in, how does the offense
change and what they expect of you?
Staley: Not too much. I think if you would look at the big picture, the biggest
thing would be the attention to details that they take, and expect of us.
VanFulpen: What do you see your role with this team being?
Staley: My role with this team will to back-up James (Stewart), and come in when
he needs a break, and compete to be the third down back to be able to use my
skills as a receiver, and a runner to help this team win.
VanFulpen: Thanks a lot for you time.
Staley: No problem.
