HB's First Round Mock Draft
By Herb Nicholl

1. Oakland Raiders JaMarcus
Russell QB LSU
The Raiders will get calls from
teams looking to trade up. They need a signal caller, or they could go with
Calvin Johnson. In the end the Raiders draft a franchise QB. They could take
Quinn, who is more of a leader and is NFL ready, but they select Russell who has
one of the strongest arms ever. Davis likes strong armed QB's and GM Phil Savage
of the Browns has raved about Russell since he met him at age 14.
2. Detroit Lions Calvin Johnson WR Georgia Tech
Here you go Lions fans, another year, and Millen is still here. The Lions fans
Super Bowl. But anyways, The Buccaneers and Falcons want Calvin Johnson bad and
the Lions are listening. Other teams are calling up but for who? I think we
should stand pat and take a playmaker. Yep a WR, but this one is not overrated.
He is this years Reggie Bush at his position. Has a great attitude, great work
ethic, something coach Road Marinelli requires in a player. The Lions did try to
sign WR Kevin Curtis this off season, but he left Detroit without signing a
contract and ended up in Philly. The Lions did resign WR Mike Furrey, but Furrey
is a slot receiver. Lions also signed WR McDonald but that was for depth. Martz
will get his #2 receiver this year, and then the Lions can focus on OL and
defense the rest of the way out. The Lions also could trade this like I said.
Other players Lions could take are DE Gaines Adams, QB Brady Quinn, RB Adrian
Peterson, OT Joe Thomas, or a surprise pick.
3. Cleveland Browns Adrian Peterson RB Oklahoma
The Browns have spent a lot of money on the offensive line past few seasons.
Taking Joe Thomas here seems unlikely. The coaching staff is under pressure to
win now. Drafting a rookie QB won't get them many wins in the win column. Also
GM Phil Savage takes a liking to drafting Oklahoma players. Also the Browns did
acquire
RB Jamal Lewis this off season, but it was only for one year. All Day was highly
recruited out of Texas and was one of the best Texas High School RB's ever.
4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Amobi Okoye DT Louisville
It is highly rumored that the Bucs want Calvin Johnson, but trades this high in
the draft are hard to pull off. Okoye will be the youngest player ever drafted
in April.
Chucky fell in love with the kid at the Senior Bowl. The Bucs could also look at
DE Gaines Adams, OT Joe Thomas, or possibly QB Brady Quinn.
5. Arizona Cardinals Joe Thomas OT Wisconsin
The Cardinals offensive line is awful. They lost LT Leonard Davis in free agency
to the Cowboys. The Cards also have new coaches this year in head coach Ken
Whisenhunt, and OL coach Russ Grimm. They are transitioning to a power running
game. The only things that could make this selection someone else is if Thomas
doesn't fall to them, or they feel like not paying for a LT as QB Matt Leinart
is left handed. They could look to take DE Gaines Adams here.
6. Washington Redskins Gaines Adams DE Clemson
The Redskins don't have a pick again in this draft for another 137 picks. They
will look to trade down, but lastest rumblings were they are having a hard time
finding a trading partner.Adams is fast, and is ranked as the best DE, I feel
though he will be weak vs the run. One thing is for sure, this will be a
defensive player going to the Skins. DE Jamaal Anderson is also possible.
7. Minnesota Vikings Leon Hall CB Michigan
I feel that the Vikings will help out their defensive backs this year. They lost
Fred Smoot to the Redskins. The do need a pass rush so DE Jamaal Anderson is
very possible here. Also you can't rule out Brady Quinn going here as well, but
the Vikings already have a young promising QB they drafted last year.
8. Atlanta Falcons LaRon Landry S LSU
The Falcons need a safety. They do have Milloy but he is getting old. Landry is
perhaps the best defensive player in the draft. The Falcons could very well
select LT Levi Brown here as well.
9. Miami Dolphins Brady Quinn QB Notre Dame
The Dolphins have a new head coach and he will most likely want his guy at QB.
Quinn is deemed to be the most NFL ready QB to enter the draft since Peyton
Manning. I feel that Quinn will be decent, I hear a lot of Lions fans that say
he will bust. He couldn't win the big games at Notre Dame, but I tell you this,
he didn't have great weapons to begin with there. Lions could regret passing on
him.
10. Houston Texans Levi Brown OT Penn State
The Texans need a offensive tackle bad. Brown is rumored to be rising on the
draft boards due to being a very strong LT. The Texans could also look at DT
Alan Branch here.
11. San Francisco 49ers Jamaal Anderson DE Arkansas
The 49ers could go in many directions. I feel they need a NT and Branch would
give them one. They could also look at DE Jamaal Anderson, DE Adam Carriker and
ILB Patrick Willis. I will go with Anderson here.
12. Buffalo Bills Marshawn Lynch RB California
The Bills traded off RB Willis McGahee to the Ravens, they need a RB
desperately. They could also look at selecting ILB Patrick Willis. I will go
with Lynch here. He will make Bills fans forget about McGahee.
13. St. Louis Rams Alan Branch DT Michigan
The Rams need to improve their rushing defense. Branch was ranked the best DT in
the draft but has slipped due to a poor workout. The Rams could go in other
directions as well with this pick including WR Ted Ginn Jr.
14. Carolina Panthers Patrick Willis ILB Mississippi
Sorry Lions fans we won't be drafting Willis. The Panthers may take TE Greg
Olsen here but I feel as if that is too high. Willis is a beast and will give
the Panthers a healthy ILB for the often injured Dan Morgan.
15. Pittsburgh Steelers Darrelle Revis CB Pittsburgh
The Steelers need a shut down CB. Revis a hometown CB won't have to move and
stays in the steel city.
16. Green Bay Packers Ted Ginn Jr. WR Ohio State
The Packers are tough to predict. The could go offense or defense. If RB
Marshawn Lynch falls could he go here? They could look at TE Greg Olson, I will
go with WR Ted Ginn Jr who has explosive speed, and will be a playmaker
at the next level.
17. Jacksonville Jaguars Reggie Nelson S Florida
The Jaguars will select Reggie Nelson here I think. Nelson the local product is
a stud.
18. Cincinnati Bengals Greg Olsen TE Miami
The Bengals could select TE Greg Olsen here, Possible they could go DE here,
19. Tennessee Titans Adam Carriker DE Nebraska
The Titans also could look to draft a CB here because Pacman can't stay out
of trouble and was suspended for the season.
20. N.Y. Giants Lawrence Timmons OLB Florida State
The Giants need help on defense. Timmons has loads of potential. They could go
CB here but have of a need at linebacker.
21. Denver Broncos Jarvis Moss DE Florida
Has tremendous upside. Some compare him to Jevon Kearse. They need a pass rusher
at DE. They filled most of their weaknesses so DE is the priority.
22. Dallas Cowboys Robert Meachem WR Tennessee
The Cowboys need a WR, the wide receivers they have now are old. They signed
Leonard Davis on the offensive line, so they won't be selecting Justin Blaylock.
23. Kansas City Chiefs Dwayne Bowe WR LSU
The Chiefs need a WR as well. The ones they have are old or their contracts are
about to expire. Bowe is a physical receiver
24. New England Patriots Jon Beason ILB Miami (f/SEA)
The Patriots are looking at defense this year. Beason is being compared to
Jonathan Vilma.
25. N.Y. Jets Aaron Ross CB Texas
The Jets pick is confusing me. I am sure it will be defense but who? I will go
with Ross here.
26. Philadelphia Eagles Chris Houston CB Arkansas
The Eagles need a cornerback and a safety. They could look at Meriweather here
but I think his character issues will push him to round two.
27. New Orleans Saints Marcus McCaulley CB Fresno State
The Saints might take another WR, I don't think they would take Jarrett,
Remember when Fred Thomas got burned over and over again in the playoffs?
They will select a CB here.
28. New England Patriots Michael Griffin S Texas
He will sit behind Rodney Harrison and learn. I like this kid. Great pick for
Pats if indeed happens.
29. Baltimore Ravens Joe Staley OT Central Michigan
Staley has been rising on draft boards. I could see OG Justin Blalock going here
as well.
30. San Diego Chargers Dwayne Jarrett WR Southern California
He is not falling any further. The Chargers need a WR and they get the local
product. Jarrett times slow, reminds people of BMW. Will he he slow, fat, and
lazy, or will he defy the odds?
31. Chicago Bears Paul Posluszny OLB Penn State
The Bears are shopping Lance Briggs who wants out. Posluszny is from a
linebacker school and is a 4-3 linebacker.
32. Indianapolis Colts Justin Harrell DT Tennessee
The Colts were hit hard in free agency at linebacker, still I think they will
fill that sometime in the draft.
